Val doesn't only focus on showing her open horses, she also makes it a priority to assist her clients, not only to learn and improve reining skills and maneuvers, but she also helps them prepare for showing by giving one on one or group lessons. Val encourages and coaches her clients at each show, not only coaching them when they are inside the show pen, she helps them to get prepared to feel confident before their class begins.
Val's horse care philosophy also includes making sure the horse enjoys their reining "job", and part of horse care means also rewarding horses in different ways such as getting out of the arena and going for a short trail ride. "Rewarding your horse is important when they've been working hard, especially preparing for an upcoming show, sometimes that means getting them out of the arena for a change of pace and scenery to help keep them fresh."
Val is known in the reining industry as being supportive, hardworking, honest and an ethical horse trainer. Val gets to know each of the horses in her barn individually and provides care, nutrition and training according to the need of each horse. Val also tailors training with each client according to their needs and learning styles. At reining shows Val is often seen watching other Reiners in the show arena and cheering them on.
Ongoing education is crucial to keeping up with the latest in the equine sports industry. Val keeps up with her training skills by going to other training facilities and riding with and learning from other trainers, as well as putting on clinics at her barn in Wilsall, MT. Hard work is what pays off to get results, Val dedicates her time to training, giving lessons, providing care to the horses and getting ready for reining shows. And it doesn't stop there, Val assists her clients not only to learn and improve reining skills and maneuvers, but she also helps them to prepare to show, encouraging and coaching her clients before and at each show.
